Mesothelioma Treatment Facts



  • Doctors advocate that patients should eat 50 % more protein and 20 % more calories than usual during chemotherapy treatment.
  • Patients receiving chemotherapy typically undergo 2 to 3 cycles of treatment, each lasting three weeks and  then reevaluated.
  • Pemetrexed  and Cisplatin and, two most general chemotherapeutic drugs for mesothelioma, are administered for 1 to 2 hours every three weeks.
  • Radiation is naturally administered 5 days a week for some weeks. Each treatment is generally given in short bursts of 1 to 5 minutes and is designed to destroy cancerous cells while not harming nearby healthy cells.
  • General side effects of mesothelioma treatment include nausea, sore throat, hair loss and pneumonitis.
